Sunday
School Program
Growing, and increasingly successful, St. George's Sunday School Program
continues to serve. Children meet on Sundays at 10:00, divided into classes
of roughly equivalent ages, and complete a project and learn the lesson
of the day before joining the rest of the congregation for Holy Communion
in the church. It is the intent of the program that children learn the
basic lessons of what it means to be a Christian in a communal, fun, unpressured
environment.
Led by Becky Bradley and a host of parent volunteers, the program highlights
this past year included a Christmas play "The Friendly Beasts"
(performed on the Sunday before Christmas), wreath making during Advent,
Ukranian Easter Egg dyeing during Lent, and the Parish Picnic in June.
In addition,
the children occasionally participate in the Sunday services: lighting
the Advent Candles during Advent, participating in Earth Day celebrations
in the garden, or listening as the rector reads a story related to the
service.
Adult
Education
Adult education
at St. George's consists at the present time of the Tuesday Lectionary
Luncheon Group (which discusses the upcoming Sunday readings), a Lenten
series of discussion groups that meets between the Sunday services in
the six weeks before Easter, an introduction to the Eucharist class that
meets twice a year, and a confirmation class (provided there are enough
people).
In the past
we have also sponsored the occasional reading group, organized by parishioners.
In the coming year, we hope to enhance the educational opportunities,
and have reserved Wednesday evenings as a general time for such events.
