Acolytes

Acolytes assist the rector during services in a myriad of tasks, such as carrying the processional cross and candles, and assisting the rector at the altar. St. George's has a tradition of teens serving in this ministry.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is responsible for upkeep of altar hangings and linen, preparing the altar for services, and cleaning up once the services have ended.

Choir

The choir sings at the 10:00 Sunday services and special Holy days and events throughout the year, and is always on the lookout for new voices. Anyone who loves to sing is encouraged to audition. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 6:00, and at 9:30 AM Sunday mornings.

The Dragon's Tale

The Dragon's Tale is the parish newsletter, covering our life together in Christ, and published ten times a year. The editors welcome any participation by parishioners who enjoy writing, editing, or production.

Education

Sunday School, for the parish's youth, is an important and energetic part of St. George's ministry and volunteer opportunities abound for those with a yen for instructing or participating. Adult education at St. George's could always use ideas, instructors, and involvement. Spiritual Direction - private meditations and examinations of one's life in Christ with a trained "spiritual director," is available to anyone through a program set up by the diocese of NH, which also serves to train persons interested in being spiritual directors.

Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

The ECW organizes the Rummage Sale in September and the Christmas Fair on the first Saturday in Advent (both in conjunction with other local, Durham churches), occasional other fundraising events, and hosts various dinners throughout the year. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 10:00 AM. The Fair Group, meets every Wednesday morning during the school year to work on craft projects to be sold at the Christmas Fair. Proceeds from the Rummage Sale and Christmas Fair are donated to non-profit organizations, local charity, and support for the parish.

Flower Guild

Flower Guild members work in groups of two in procuring and arranging flowers for services throughout the year.

Garden & Landscaping Committee

Members of this committee insure that the grounds are well-kept, watered, and reflective of the glory of God in all its beauty!

Heritage Guild

The Heritage Guild is the parish's archival and historical center. Volunteers document St. George's history, collect photos and memorabilia, create scrapbooks, and perform other related activity such as protecting valuable documents in acid-free materials.

Outreach

The outreach committee plans projects and organizes assistance to those in need, such as refugee resettlement, the homeless, or the hungry. They also find, research, and present to the vestry a list of non-profit organizations and other charitable groups for grants from sums reserved in St. George's annual budget. Caps for Kids is a group of knitters and crocheters who knit caps for newborn babies of local hospitals.

Sunday Volunteers

There are a number of volunteer opportunities on any given Sunday, such as being a Greeter - handing out leaflets, welcoming newcomers, passing the collection plate, etc. - Coffee Hour Hosts - prepare and serve light refreshment at coffee hour on Sundays - and Readers who read the lessons during services. Participating as a greeter or coffee hour host is a great way to meet people and serve an important ministry at the same time. Licensed chalice bearers and Lay Eucharistic Ministers are officially appointed by the rector and require diocesan approval.

Thrift Shop

St. George's operates a seasonal thrift shop, selling "almost new clothes of top quality," and which is open on Thursdays from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Proceeds are donated to the church. Work includes gathering, sorting, pricing, and manning the shop.

Stewardship Committee

This important committee assists in the many varied duties associated with the parish's annual pledge drive. Duties can include telephoning, hosting a small gathering of parishioners, educating, or organizing.
