| | February 7th, The Fifth Sunday After The Epiphany | Jesus is preaching from a boat a short ways from shore; an advantage both visual and acoustic for those assembled. Almost as an afterthought, he instructs the fishermen, weary with a long night of poor fishing, to let down their nets just one more time. Reluctantly, they comply, and the result is a catch so enormous that the boats nearly sink under the load. Can faith's abundant gifts also overwhelm us? And wouldn't that be a good problem to have? Our Readings for this Sunday: Isaiah 6:1-13 -- Isaiah's vision of God enthroned in heaven; "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts."Psalm 138:1-4,7,9 -- When I called, you answered; you increased my strength within me.1 Corinthians 15:1-11 -- For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures. Luke 5:1-11 -- Then Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people." When the disciples had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him. |
